Culion Livelihood Ecosystem launched

Xavier Alvaran

The Culion Livelihood Ecosystem (CLE) is formally launched in Isla Culion, Palawan. A gathering of its members is held at the Antonio T. Mabera Covered Court. CLE is composed of various enterprises in Isla Culion, Palawan namely Hotel Maya, Kawil Tours, Isla Culion Consumers Cooperative (ICCC), and people's organizations (PO's) Samahan ng mga Responsableng Mamamayan ng Galoc (SAREMAGA) and Hugpong Mananagat ng Binudac (HUMABI). The CLE initiative is supported by Simbahang Lingkod ng Bayan (SLB) and the Loyola College of Culion (LCC). The joint effort is pushed forth by the participating and organizations to make Isla Culion a hub for social enterprises that seek to empower and benefit its people, particularly the survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda (international name Haiyan).

Boats from Sun Life Foundation – Philippines have also been distributed to typhoon survivors-beneficiaries as part of the ceremony. Sun Life Foundation has been a dedicated donor and partner of SLB in its rehabilitation efforts in the island and its continuous support has helped restore the livelihood of fisherfolks in the region who comprise the aforementioned people’s organizations.

Such unwavering support is a step towards a more resilient Isla Culion!
