UPDATE: Solarized Water Purifiers
According to Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD), they have installed several faucets near their pumping stations in Brgys. Macasandig, Balulang, Calaanan and near MUST. And particularly in Barangay Macasandig, COWD installed faucets along the street near the evacuation center whose water source is their pumping station there. Although several faucets have been installed there, there is only one faucet dedicated for drinking. The same holds true in another pumping station in Macasandig. Engr. Jun Granada suggests putting his Solarized Water Purifier to add another faucet for drinking. Permission from COWD has been granted by Engr. Bienvenido V. Batar, Jr. Assistant General Manager. Engr. Batar gave us a list of pumping stations that do not have drinking water and the team hopes to replicate what will be done in Brgy. Macasandig, so more driking water will be available.COWD through conversation with Engr. Batar declared that they do not have the means to test water if it's potable or not as of the moment because of the devastation of their tubes and pump stations. Ms. Gertrude M. Garcia of the Biology of Department of Xavier University offered to test the water in their laboratory from the Solarized Water Purifier.
MWSS has already installed a purification system for safe driking water located at the new bridge near the rotunda. On Friday 23 December 2011, the Philippine Navy will be shipping additional two (2) purifying equipments from MWSS and 700 boxes of mineral water will arrive . They will be needing three trucks for this. This will be communicated to the Transpo Team tomorrow.
This afternoon, when we went to pump station 3 in Brgy. Macasandig, Engr. Batar asked us that we go and install our purifying equipment instead to pump station number 2. But we observed that the venue is not conducive and it already has drinking water. A third venue was suggested but the concern there is the security and safety of the equipment since it will be installed outside. We found the best location is to install it inside the sub-pump station. An extra hose is needed for this location. Other items needed like fittings will be purchased tomorrow. Installation/ set-up will be tomorrow at 7:00-8:00am. Neil, Engineering student offered his vehicle to be used as service for the team. Jonjee of the Biology Department will administer the testing of water and results will be given to us tomorrow.
Mr. Jun Escoto of MWSS informed us that there is a water tank that is filled-up already with potable water and needs to be deployed or delivered. Trucking/ vehicle will be provided by Transpo Team tomorrow morning.
There is a pledge of Puritabs. Item needs to be seen for verification. Mr. Philip Tan and Mr. Chanito Jagonal are donating 4,000 liters of water to be delivered tomorrow (22 Dec 2011). Delivery will be until Friday (23 Dec 2011) and will resume Monday (26 Dec 2012).
