E-UGNAY: On working towards becoming an initiative on Disaster Risk Reduction
SLB’s E-Ugnay Project becomes part of the 2012 TAPATAN ROADSHOW on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation held last July 12, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center, MOA Grounds in Pasay City. This activity is organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government-NCR and is aimed at advocating and institutionalizing the concept of disaster preparedness among local government units regionwide.
This event gave SLB and other organizations an opportunity to showcase and profile their initiatives, programs solutions, best practices, tools and equipment on disaster preparedness. To be able to participate in this occasion has been a great opportunity for SLB to not only promote E-Ugnay as an initiative that is now being developed in line with the national priorities in disaster risk reduction, but also to be able to learn from and be in touch with the other national government agencies, local government units and civil society organizations who are working towards the same end.
The Tapatan Roadshow was participated in by Metro Manila Local Chief Executives, NCR Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) as well as Punong Barangays of areas which are severely prone to flooding in NCR.
The event finished with a speech delivered by His Excellency President Benigno S. Aquino III who echoed the theme, Magtapatan Tayo..Handa na ba Kayo? to the municipal and local leaders present in the activity. He is accompanied by Cabinet Secretaries who are also Vice-Chairpersons of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

His Excellency President Benigno S. Ninoy Aquino was the event’s Guest of Honor and Speaker with Honorable DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo as the Main Resource Person.

Lui Morada, SLB’s Program Manager for DRRM, together with Bro. Eric Esteba, SJ and Frances Estipona manned SLB’s E-Ugnay Exhibit and did some demonstration using the current prototype of the technology.

Together with other civil society organizations, SLB showcased E-Ugnay as an initiative which is now being re-developed to include a mechanism for disaster risk reduction.
